She has volunteered with various organizations over the years, including animal shelters, environmental groups, children’s libraries, support groups for moms, and more. In addition to helping KodiakCare, her current volunteer efforts include prepping and supporting her son’s mountain biking team at their races and helping to run a women’s hiking group she founded. Originally from Massachusetts, she now lives with her family and two dogs, Rosie and Chewie, just outside of Austin, Texas. When she’s not writing or wrangling kids and dogs, she enjoys practicing yoga and exploring the Hill Country.

Why KodiakCare

I have always loved animals, especially dogs. Although I eventually switched tracks and earned a degree in English, I originally wanted to become a veterinarian and started college with a major in Pre-Vet and Animal Sciences. Working with KodiakCare is a perfect way for me to combine those two interests since it allows me to use my writing and communication skills to help dogs.

A favorite personal dog story

A few years ago our dog, Rosie, was diagnosed with bloat, which is fatal if not treated quickly. The surgery to save her was expensive, but luckily, we were able to make it work. I know there are many pet owners out there who are forced to make a different decision when faced with a similar dilemma. I’m so glad KodiakCare is working to make sure dog owners don’t have to let their financial situation decide their dog’s fate.
