Matthew Shapiro

Matthew is passionate about his family circus, featuring two dogs and two cats, totaling 138 pounds (including 63 pounds of fur). His other interests lie in data analytics and problem-solving. During the day, he leads process efficiency efforts for Liberty Mutual Insurance and manages strategic financial initiatives. At night, he practices treat-catching with Walter, does yoga with Jane, bird watches with Oscar and takes a nap with Maybelle.
Why KodiakCare
I hope for every child to grow up and spend as many days, moments and years with the dogs they love. My family had multiple dogs that sculpted my childhood and fill my fondest memories. Kodiak gave my family immense love and kindness which I hope to help return in the form of time to families, children and dogs.
A favorite dog, other than your own
Shadow from the movie Homeward Bound is far and away the dog I admire most. His well-honed problem-solving skills driven by love for his human companion inspires me to be equally dedicated to my furry friends.
A favorite personal dog story
My wife Kate adopted Maybelle, a Great Pyrenees, as a surprise for my birthday in 2014. Maybelle was rescued from a farm in Mississippi with very little for an origin story. We were given a broad age range (5 to 9 years) and her name was her hair color (Blonde). Many years later, Maybelle’s age is still a contested topic with several Benjamin Button theories floating around.
